I COLTRI Toscana IGT Bianco

I COLTRI Toscana IGT Bianco

I COLTRI Toscana IGT Bianco

Surrounded by woods and reachable via a four-kilometre white road, Podere I Coltri is the most remote and wildest of the estates. An ancient rural settlement, it overlooks the ruins of Cepparello Castle, an outpost destroyed by the Florentines on their return from the battle of Montaperti on 4 September 1260. A historical document tells us that: near the ruins of the Cepparello Castle, at 400 m a.s.l., in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, parcels 29, 30, 37, 38, 39, and 40 have been cultivated with vines and olive trees since time immemorial and traditionally called ‘I Coltri’. Difficult to cultivate due to it being skeletal, the soil of the I Coltri estate is characterized by the abundance of scaly argillites, commonly called ‘Galestro’, which characterize the oldest geological area. The altitude, the cooler microclimate mitigated by the woods, and the strong temperature variations have created the right conditions for the cultivation of white berried varieties. Toscana IGT Bianco with a rich and elegant character is vinified partly in cement and partly in wood and aged for a long time on the fine lees.
